Module: Current Issues of Business Process Integration – Logistics

Recognizing market opportunities – Developing value added networks

Problem & Task

Logistics is the third largest economic sector in Germany, following the retail and automotive industries. Today international goods and information networks for manufacturing and services are playing an increasingly important role due to the strong emphasis on exports and international business relationships. Logistics is cross-disciplinary with its central focus on the integration of processes, organization, and information processing. Especially for companies engaged in manufacturing, it is becoming an increasingly important competitive factor to ensure an optimal connection between the goods and information streams of suppliers and purchasers.

Objectives

Managers are therefore required to specifically demonstrate skills relating to the holistic “ability to think and act outside the box” that extend beyond established departmental boundaries. In addition to a solid knowledge of methods and sound analytical and conceptual skills, decision-makers need to have a sense of alternating dependencies and their influence on processes both in-house and industry-wide.

Approach

This module focuses on the key principles, methods and concepts of Logistics and specifically examines the more recent challenges of company-wide planning and coordination in terms of Supply Network Management. The instructors’ main objective is to present the learning material in a practice-oriented manner. To achieve this, theoretical principles are illustrated through numerous real-life examples and then discussed in further detail through group work. Participants therefore develop a sound understanding of central logistic functions, both within the company and industry-wide, and are then able to effectively utilize these concepts to improve the competitive position of the organization.
