Module: Information Technology Services

The effective implementation of services

Problem & Task

In connection with the continually decreasing real net output ratio, there is an ever increasing number of internal and external service providers for IT services that specialize in a number of different areas. New tasks such as Electronic Business or service-oriented architectures present real challenges for companies with respect to corporate and IT strategy

Objectives

In future, managers must be able to recognize implementation opportunities for integrated data processing and then be able to evaluate their specific organization to decide which services should be provided internally and which should be purchased from external service providers. Such make-or-buy decisions are critical to the success and business development in connection with the increased concentration on core competencies and therefore must be viewed as a crucial management function.

Approach

This module takes place at the innovative Florida Gulf Cost University. Experienced professors introduce various IT services and investigate their role in business success. Using case studies, participants will analyze the use of IT services, e. g. in fusions or acquisitions or with respect to matters of compliance. Round table discussions with US managers allow for reflection on the topics to be combined with the experience of practitioners operating in the international arena.
