Problem & Task

Given the intensifying global competitive environment of companies and the increasing networking of international supply and output relations, Contemporary Management Concepts offer an essential contribution for the structuring and systematization of economic decisions. In the future, it will not be sufficient to focus on optimizing stock, lot sizes and processes to be sustainably successful on the market. The establishment of a specific management and decision culture is therefore crucial.

Objectives

Managers have to meet two requirements: on the one hand it is important to know the appropriate methods and techniques that perform a surplus within the occupational surrounding. On the other hand managers have to master the latest thinking principles and be able to use them for themselves. Subjects of the module are therefore established methods as well as innovative and very efficient techniques coming from other areas, like the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) or the Karnaugh-diagram which are transferred to economic surroundings. That enables to re-evaluate and widen individual thinking structures, boost creativity and innovation as well as to ensure and to raise the success of the own companies.

Approach

The implementation requirements and typical applications as well as the strengths and weaknesses of chosen techniques will be contrasted with the help of practical examples and team work. The module offers a broad overview over the methods and provides punctual consolidations through practices in the areas of information and communication, decision structuring and preparation as well as evaluation and decision making. Moreover contributions by instructors from well-known companies will deepen the topics innovation and creativity techniques. The focus is mainly on new challenges that employees and managers are facing as well as on the possibilities and opportunities for companies that derive from the practical implementation of contemporary management concepts.
