(Learning) Success results from CaseTrain


The participants of the MBA Business Integration will approach the topic of “Business Processes within Companies” with a new form of teaching. Therefore the new System “Case Train” is applied, which has been developed at the University of Würzburg.


The implication of learning systems that are based on cases, in which didactical refined problems of the operative reality are being presented, analyzed, judged and solved, boosts the broadening of practical references. The problem-oriented learning is also leading to an enduring mediation of the content. In contrast to classical lectures, case train emphasizes on realistic problems out of the entrepreneurial everyday life.

The most important partner of the learner is his of her personal computer, with which the exercises are done interactively. After the presentation of the problem and the initial situation, the training case may be solved step by step. The computer is acting as a virtual tutor, who is not only evaluating the final result, but also checking each single step automatically and giving permanent information about the learner’s state of knowledge.


For a better consolidation of the module contents, also multimedia-based elements are put into the cases. Moreover, various types of questions guarantee a diversified, as close to reality as possible, interaction with the learner.
