Field Trip into the Westerwald

The team members of the Executive MBA program of the University of Würzburg had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into a company’s day to day business as well as to enjoy cultural highlights. During a two-day-excursion, they visited the company Schütz, with has its headquarters in the Westerwald, joined a tour through the historical old town of Koblenz and made a canoe ride on river Lahn, near to the city of Weilburg.

Packing specialists in the middle of the Westerwald

In the village Selters im Westerwald lies the headquarters of the Schütz GmbH & Co. KGaA, a company being specialized in packaging, particularly for liquids of all kinds. During a presentation of the company and a guided tour through the factory, the participants of the excursion could gain very interesting insights. Executive director Winfried Heibel and production director Ludger Koch impressed especially with the distinctive vertical range of manufacture. During lunch they still had to answer numerous questions about the production sequences.

City tour to the ‘German Corner’

During a city tour afterwards, the field trips’ participants discovered the city of Koblenz. A guided two hours tour did not leave out any place of significance in the historical old town. Thanks to the competent guide, numerous stories about the city described the traditional and long-standing history of Koblenz in vivid colours. The last stop of the tour was the so called ‘German Corner’, where the rivers Mosel and Rhein meet.

Muscle power on the river Lahn

For the next day, the program planned some physical training in terms of a canoe trip on the river Lahn near to Weilburg. In canoes with 2 or 3 people, the participants covered a remarkable distance for a couple of hours, bravely overcoming floodgates and other hindrances. The reward on this sunny and mild autumn day consisted of a hearty dinner in Weilburg.
