Cross Cultural Management

Cross Cultural Management

“When in Rome, do as the Romans do” is an often cited wordly wisdom. But cultural differences are not restricted to ethnic customs that are marveled at by tourists. They are related e. g. to language, gesture, attitude, form of use, politeness, religion, ideology, values and norms. The result of this variety of cultural appearances is the potential for misunderstandings when members of different cultures meet.

Poise at meetings with members of other cultures

Even on the level of simple interpersonal communication a kindly intended gesture may be misunderstood by the counterpart as rudeness or personal disrespect and therefore trouble the relationship of the involved persons even before it began. Therefore it is crucial for employees within leading positions or project responsibilities, to be educated within the contact with members of other cultures to notice misunderstandings coming from different impressions and to analyze them.
