Festive graduation of our Class of 2010

On October 23, 2010 the two years lasting study time of the participants of the Class of 2010 came to an end within the Graduation Ceremony in the festive Tuscany Hall at the Princebishop’s Residence in Würzburg. Traditionally wearing gowns, honor stoles and caps with tassel, they were handed their certificates. Therefore this was the 10th class to graduate since the beginning of the Executive MBA study program in Würzburg in 1999. The Alumni network now is counting about 260 alumni.

MBA Business Integration Class of 2010

10 years of successful partnership with the Boston University

Elizabeth Nassar, Director Executive Programs of Boston University School of Management was opening the ceremony. She emphasized on the 10 years lasting partnership of Boston University and the University of Würzburg. As a symbol of the successful partnership Professor Dr. Rainer Thome handed her a framed certificate with an engraving of Wuerzburg’s Neubaukirche.

Professor Rürup: Germany is better than its reputation!

The Keynote Speaker of the Graduation Ceremony was Professor em. Dr. Dr. h.c. Bert Rürup who has been chairman of the German Council of Economic Experts for years. He was talking about the topic “Germany as a business location: better than its reputation!”. He argued economically that Germany, with its advance in knowledge particularly within the area of high technological products and the strong presence of medium-sized companies, can keep on expanding its production possibilities and therefore grow on the long term.

Education as key to lasting success

Furthermore, Rürup emphasized on the need of life-long learning, and therefore the continuous education. On the one hand the ability to quickly learn new issues begins to fall at the age of 30, and the crystalline intelligence which includes routine jobs and know-how rises. However, on the other hand the job markets ask workers to continuously learn new things as the knowledge of the study time is quickly obsolete. So he wished for himself and the alumni to keep on learning after the MBA studies, as the productivity of Germany should not decrease.
