Get ready to manage risks!

Get ready to manage risks!

This year’s supplementary module deals with the topics of „Risk Management“ and will take place from September 6 til September 11, 2010 in Würzburg. Interested Alumni, current students as well as external participants are invited to join the module.

Module Background

Due to the increasing complexity and dynamic of the environment which result from networked markets, the risk situation of companies is tightening: bigger opportunities are facing higher risk. Many companies are not prepared methodically and organizationally in an appropriate way and therefore react too late on the occurrence of risks. Many company failures within in the last years can clearly be ascribed to a missing or only limited working risk management.

Effectively leading companies using corporate governance

Good corporate governance helps companies to create transparent and effective organizational structures. A pro-active aquaintance of how to handle risks has to be added as well. The main task of risk management is to discover the relevant risks, to communicate them reasonably and to avoid erroneous trends. The establishment of a risk culture may support this process.

Module Structure

The module will discuss both the fundamentals of good corporate governance as well as the basic guidelines for a comprehensible risk management. Based on an overview over the regulatory framework requirements the difference between the legally demanded and the economically necessary risk management will be exposed. Within the scope of risk evaluation and risk aggregation, the necessary quantitative basics of risk management will be practiced.

Instructors from Theory and Practice

The instructors within the module stay in close relation to the research center „Risk Management“ (German only) at the University of Wuerzburg. Experienced speakers are among others: Professor Dr. Rainer Göb (Chair of Statistics), Professor Dr. Hansrudi Lenz (Chair of Business Administration, Auditing, and Consulting), Dr. Roland Franz Erben (Risk Management Association), and Marcus Pauli (Research Center Risk Management).
